The Tongue

One of the greatest ni’mah Allah gave to mankind is the tongue. I mean like i just realized this and it’s really amazing you know. Imagine that 6 Billion people in this earth is have no tongue, how would they communicate? How would they share their ideas one and another? So we really need to be grateful of this ni’mah. Imagine yourself if you suddenly can’t speak!

Now if we look in the Qur’an Allah explained this huge ni’mah in one of his ayah.

عَلَّمَهُ الْبَيَانَ [٥٥:٤]

He has taught him speech. (Ar-Rahmah:3)

But from my view, sometimes we get delluted by this ni’mah and use it for the things that Allah forbid it. They use it on backbite, slander, speaking without knowledge. They take it as easy things. But we shoud remember that every single of our words are recorded! We should remember that every word that we pour from our mouth regarding other people will be asked by Allah ta’ala. Isn’t it a man with his words can enter Islam? Or the opposite he can be a murtad wal iyyadzu billah. Isn’t it a man can be married only from his word that he said? So this thing is not a small things my brother.

And the things that I saw in my life also, that we sometimes speak as if we have to speak all the time, haha. You know that awkward moment when there is nothing in the air except silence? You are looking for words to speak but you can’t find it? Sometimes you just need to be silence my brother. Try to be silent much, or if you can , try to fast at Monday and Thursday as the Sunnah of the Prophet Shallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam and do not talk much in that day. You will find peace. You will find rest.

So the important thing is our brother, that we should keep to guard our tongue. It is better to be silent and not talk much rather than talking much and make lots of sins in our saying. But it doesn’t mean we have to be silent all the time, no. Just keep in the middle between silent and talking too much.

And remember this hadeeth from the Prophet Shallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam, a very beautiful hadeeth.

Abû Hurayrah relates that Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him) said: “Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day should speak a good word or remain silent. And whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day should show hospitality to his neighbor. And whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day should show hospitality to his guest.” [ Sahîh al-Bukhârî and Sahîh Muslim ]

Beware of Backbites!

Bismillah

Allah has granted us many ni’mah from his side. So if you look to your own life, till this day, you’ll realize that you can’t do nothing except that Allah has helped you regarding that matters. Don’t you see how Allah is very merciful and compassionate? He sends rains, He created the skies, He fills this earth with all the things that we need and so on. And these ni’mah can result in one of both : Either you are being grateful or being forgetful.

And one of the biggest ni’mah that Allah has given to us is He made tongue for all of us, that we can use it for goods and bads. But, unfortunately some of us forget this ni’mah. This causes them not caring about any sins or mistakes regarding this tongue. And one of the most forgotten things regarding this is “Backbiting”

It was narrated from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Do you know what gheebah (backbiting) is?” They said, “Allah and His Messenger know best.” He said, “Saying something about your brother that he dislikes.” It was said, “What if what I say about my brother is true?” He said, “If what you say is true then you have backbitten about him, and if it is not true, then you have slandered him.”

[Muslim]

Allah even said in the Qur’an

“neither backbite one another. Would one of you like to eat the flesh of his dead brother? You would hate it (so hate backbiting). And fear Allah. Verily, Allah is the One Who forgives and accepts repentance, Most Merciful” [49:12]

You see how evil are what the Backbites have already done! They have nice attitudes in front of the people; yet when other people are absence they talked lots of bad things about them as if they were already perfect! Can you imagine one people spreading in different groups talking about the shortcoming of everyone they can?! Doesn’t he fear the Akhirah?

Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Do you know who is bankrupt?” They said, “The one without money or goods is bankrupt.” The Prophet said, “Verily, the bankrupt of my nation are those who come on the Day of Resurrection with prayers, fasting, and charity, but also with insults, slander, consuming wealth, shedding blood, and beating others. The oppressed will each be given from his good deeds. If his good deeds run out before justice is fulfilled, then their sins will be cast upon him and he will be thrown into the Hellfire.

So fear Allah and control your tongue!
