One of the greatest ni’mah Allah gave to mankind is the tongue. I mean like i just realized this and it’s really amazing you know. Imagine that 6 Billion people in this earth is have no tongue, how would they communicate? How would they share their ideas one and another? So we really need to be grateful of this ni’mah. Imagine yourself if you suddenly can’t speak!
Now if we look in the Qur’an Allah explained this huge ni’mah in one of his ayah.
عَلَّمَهُ الْبَيَانَ [٥٥:٤]
He has taught him speech. (Ar-Rahmah:3)
But from my view, sometimes we get delluted by this ni’mah and use it for the things that Allah forbid it. They use it on backbite, slander, speaking without knowledge. They take it as easy things. But we shoud remember that every single of our words are recorded! We should remember that every word that we pour from our mouth regarding other people will be asked by Allah ta’ala. Isn’t it a man with his words can enter Islam? Or the opposite he can be a murtad wal iyyadzu billah. Isn’t it a man can be married only from his word that he said? So this thing is not a small things my brother.
And the things that I saw in my life also, that we sometimes speak as if we have to speak all the time, haha. You know that awkward moment when there is nothing in the air except silence? You are looking for words to speak but you can’t find it? Sometimes you just need to be silence my brother. Try to be silent much, or if you can , try to fast at Monday and Thursday as the Sunnah of the Prophet Shallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam and do not talk much in that day. You will find peace. You will find rest.
So the important thing is our brother, that we should keep to guard our tongue. It is better to be silent and not talk much rather than talking much and make lots of sins in our saying. But it doesn’t mean we have to be silent all the time, no. Just keep in the middle between silent and talking too much.
And remember this hadeeth from the Prophet Shallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam, a very beautiful hadeeth.
Abû Hurayrah relates that Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him) said: “Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day should speak a good word or remain silent. And whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day should show hospitality to his neighbor. And whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day should show hospitality to his guest.” [ Sahîh al-Bukhârî and Sahîh Muslim ]
